Comparative Study of Vibration-based Damage Detection Methods on a Bridge

چکیده
Methods for damage localization, based on modal parameters, are validated by means of numerical examples and experiments. In this paper, different load and damage cases are simulated with a Finite-Element model of a prestressed reinforced concrete bridge. Taking nonlinear material behaviour into account, realistic crack propagations and decrease of stiffness can be detected. The damage is localized by the change of mode shape curvatures and by the change of flexibility. Mass normalized mode shapes are required for the determination of flexibility matrices. The normalization is performed both with an estimated mass matrix and with help of sensitivity to a known mass perturbation. A new measure for the quality of the recovered flexibility matrices is introduced. All simulations take into account incomplete and scattering measurement values.

Damage detection of multi-girder bridge superstructure based on the modal strain approaches
The research described in this paper focuses on the application of modal strain techniques on a multi-girder bridge superstructure with the objectives of identifying the presence of damage and detecting false damage diagnosis for such structures. The case study is a one-third scale model of a slab-on-girder composite bridge superstructure, comprised of a steel-free concrete deck with FRP rebars...
متن کاملPerformance of Vibration-Based Damage Detection Methods in Bridges
The important advances achieved in the modal identification, sensors and structural monitoring of bridges have motivated the bridge engineering community to develop damage detection methods based on vibration monitoring. Some of these methods have already been demonstrated under certain conditions in bridges with deliberate damage (Farrar et al., 1998). However, the performance of these methods...
متن کاملBridge Damage Detection Based on Vibration Data: Past and New Developments
Overtime, bridge condition declines due to a number of degradation processes such as creep, corrosion, and cyclic loading, among others. Traditionally, vibration-based damage detection techniques in bridges have focused on monitoring changes to modal parameters. These techniques can often suffer to their sensitivity to changes in environmental and operational conditions, mistaking them as struc...

As a result of environmental and accidental actions, damage occurs in structures. The early detection of any defect can be achieved by regular inspection and condition assessment. In this way, the safety and reliability of structures can be increased. This paper is devoted to propose a new and effective method for detecting, locating, and quantifying beam-like structures. This method is based o...

In this paper, a method is presented for damage detection of bridges using the Enhanced Colliding Bodies Optimization (ECBO) utilizing time-domain responses. The finite element modeling of the structure is based on the equation of motion under the moving load, and the flexural stiffness of the structure is determined by the acceleration responses obtained via sensors placed in d...
